Crimperroller
Except in exceptional cases, open field fertilisation throughout the growing season is no longer allowed, so new methods of mechanical weed control are needed. The crimperroller is, in its simplicity, a rotating drum on which knives are mounted to crush the vegetation.
Crushed vegetation forms a dense plant cover on the soil surface and decomposes quickly. In dense vegetation and hard soils, crushing can be enhanced by filling the roller with water for extra weight. At the same time, the soil surface can be slightly broken up, allowing the seed pods to germinate but die quickly when they are deprived of sunlight under the plant cover.
The Crimperroller has two uses:
Option 1
Seeding and treatment of a spring or autumn-sown regeneration crop before sowing a crop with Crimperroller and KvickFinn in one application. For example, the soil improver is sown in the spring at the normal sowing time.
In summer, when the ground is well covered but the weeds have not flowered, the planting is stopped. The combination breaks up the crop and the plant remains on the surface. Autumn cereals or oilseed crops can be sown with a seed drill that is highly permeable to crop residues. The plant residue protects against siltation and makes it difficult for weeds to germinate.
Option 2
Early summer open-fertilisation and weed killing with KvickFinn, June sowing of a soil conditioner and autumn crop termination with Crimperroller. At high weed pressure, open-fertilisation can be achieved by tillage 3-4 times with KvickFinn, cross-tillage every 2-3 weeks to control weeds. Seeding is then done with a fast growing green manure mix. After two to three months, Crimperroller will crush the crop.
The intercrop provides nutrition, maintains soil moisture and protects against weeds until spring. If the crop can be killed off in time, another crop, such as winter wheat, can be sown as a direct sowing.
Crimperroller in brief:
- Enables high performance with low power requirements - economically and environmentally friendly
- Plant residues cover the seed pods and do not allow them to develop
- Soil moisture is better retained under the plant waste, and the surface does not become silty when it rains.
- Crushed plant waste rots and decomposes quickly, improving carbon storage and soil structure
- Suitable for all types of green manure roots, catch crops and sedges
- Available in working widths of 3, 4, 4.5 and 6 metres
